Soil Scientist, Dr. Rattan Lal wins 2020 World Food Prize

Dr. Rattan Lal, native of India and a citizen of the United States, received the 2020 World Food Prize for developing and mainstreaming a soil-centric approach to increasing food production that restores and conserves natural resources and mitigates climate change. Over his career spanning more than five decades and four continents, Dr. Lal has promoted innovative soil-saving techniques benefiting the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, improving food and nutritional security, and saving hundreds of millions of hectares of natural tropical ecosystems.

A longtime friend of the USI, it’s our great pleasure that Dr. Lal will open our 5th Annual Urban Soils Institute Symposium with a keynote address on October, 2, 2020.
