Soil Chromatography Workshop

  • Valé Ecolab 1-41 Beach 56th Place Queens, New York, 11692 United States (map)

Join artist and educator Rebecca Murtaugh, USI's Co-Director of the Art Extension, at the Soil Chromatography Workshop, where you will discover the hidden stories held within the soils beneath our feet. Participants will create paper soil chromatograms using local soil samples, revealing intricate patterns formed through capillary action as minerals and organic compounds move across the paper. Each chromatogram becomes a unique portrait of place, offering a new way to observe and understand the landscapes that surround us.

Participants are encouraged to bring a golf ball sized sample of dry soil from a meaningful location or collect one nearby before the workshop.

The event is free but RSVP is required.
Limited to 12 participants (Ages 12+).
